Little Puffs
(6-8 Years Old)
Introduces children to sailing with a focus of fun on the water in a safe environment, while also learning the basics of how sailboats operate.
 
Optis and Hobie Cats are provided.

Little Puffs & Camp Combo
(6-8 Years Old)
Introduces children to sailing with a focus of fun on the water in a safe environment, while also learning the basics of how sailboats operate.
 
Little Gull Camp & Big Skipper Camp participants between the ages of 6-8 are encouraged to participate in the Little Puffs Combo. Campers must be enrolled in 2-consecutive camp sessions to be eligible.
 
Optis and Hobie Cats are provided.
 
Fee: $350 per 2-week session | $175 additional week
 
Available to SYC members only. Session dates must line up with Little Gulls & Big Skippers enrollment dates.
 
 
Optimist 1
(8-13 Years Old)
*4 or 7 Week sessions 
 
The Opti 1 class is a gentle introduction to sailing for 1st year sailors. Opti 1’s will learn to sail over the course of the summer and also participate in fun on-land activities. Land activities will include learning knots, participating in relay races, and swimming. Our goal is that by the end of the summer, children will be able to rig their boats, feel comfortable sailing on their own, and perhaps even sail in Green Fleet Regattas.  STEM program will be offered in the last week of the program. 

Sailors are encouraged to provide their own boat.
Limited charter boats are available at a rate of $550 per summer.

Optimist 2
(8-14 Years Old)

The Opti 2 class is designed for the sailor who has at least one year of sailing experience. This class is for sailors who enjoy cruising and exploring the harbor with friends, while refining their skills on simple race courses. Green and White Fleet regattas are available for some sailors at this level. Daily chalk talks and debriefs about the day’s sailing and activities will be held. STEM program will be offered in the last week of the program.

The program is open to sailors up to age 15, however, sailors aged 12 and up who weigh more than 110 lbs are advised to consider signing up for the Feva, 420, Laser of Adventure Program.

Sailors are required to provide their own boat.

Adventure Sailing
(10-17 Years Old, 90+ lbs)
The Adventure class is perfect for sailors that prefer the recreational and social aspects of sailing and enjoy exploring the sport through different types of boats and unique techniques, such as trapezing on a 420, spinnaker flying on a Feva, and flying a hull on a Hobie Cat. Sailors will improve their boat handling and seamanship through on-the-water games and will explore the Long Island Sound on distance sails.

This course is designed for sailors that have completed Opti 2 or participated in the Reachers class last year, or are beginner sailors, 10 and older interested in learning about the sport.

420s, Fevas and Hobie Cats are provided.

Optimist Advanced Racing
(8-15 Years Old)
 
Opti Racing is for sailors who love the sport and want to focus on racing skills. The class is appropriate for sailors who have completed Intermediate Opti and wish to focus on racing and competing at JSA events.
 
Sailor provides their own boat.

Laser Racing
(12-17 Years Old)
 
Like the Optimist for younger kids, the Laser is the worldwide standard for single-handed racing for both teens and adults. The Laser Racing Program is for intermediate to advanced sailors that want to race Lasers competitively in JSA events and beyond.
 
Sailor provides their own boat.

The Club 420 and Fevas are a high-performance race boat. The Club 420 & Feva Racing Program is for intermediate and advanced sailors who want to improve their racing skills, including spinnaker and trapeze work. Club 420 & Feva Racing sailors will also compete in JSA events. 
 
Sailors are encouraged to provide their own boat.
Limited charter boats are available at a rate of $500 for 420 and $750 for Feva's per summer.
