Trip Overview

The Summer Outdoor Adventure program offers a weekend of outdoor education from Friday, July 28th - Sunday, July 30th. The program takes place at the beautiful Mohican Outdoor Center in Blairstown, New Jersey and sits on an amazing glacial lake within the 70,000 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. 

General Itinerary: 

Day 1: All registered youth will meet at the Downtown Community Center on Friday, July 28th at 9:30am for private bus transportation to the Mohican Outdoor Center (MOC) in Blairstown, NJ. Upon arrival at the MOC, youth will head to the Visitor's Center for lunch prepared by Appalachian Mountain Club staff and an orientation led by Manhattan Youth. After lunch, the group will head to their assigned cabins to unpack and settle in. Thereafter, instructors will conduct team building exercises and youth will have the opportunity to choose between the following activities: swimming, canoeing, or social games inside of the Boat House. During the evening, the group will reassemble for dinner and s’mores around a camp fire before heading back to their cabins to shower and relax with their cabin buddies for the remainder of the night.     

Day 2: After an introductory meeting regarding hiking with instructors and youth, gear is checked and issued. Hiking routes for the day will be reviewed, and youth will then hit the trail toward their camping destination while stopping for lunch and breaks along the trail. Outdoor skills will be discussed while enjoying breathtaking views from summits along the way. Once at the campsite, youth will learn about camp set up and sleeping comfortably outdoors. 

Day 3: The group works together to break down camp. After breakfast, all gear that was issued during the trip will be returned. Youth will pack and then have time to play games with friends, participate in team initiatives led by instructors, or have some down time to reflect on their experience in the outdoors before boarding the bus heading back toward the Downtown Community Center. Youth will return to the Downtown Community Center at 12:30pm.

Cabin Group Request

All children requested should be going into the same grade in September
We can almost always place your child with their one "best buddy". If you list any additional buddies, we'll do our best to accomodate those requests as well, but cannot guarantee it will happen.
