All About Us

The Future Falcons Music Camp

“Community service through music”

College Park students understand the importance of a strong foundation in music education. Last Spring, under the guidance of Mr. Jiménez, our students taught 4th and 5th grade students in the Future Falcons after-school music program. This year we celebrate the return of 5th grade music in MDUSD classrooms and look forward to the return of 4th grade music next year. Building on the success of that program we are offering the Future Falcons Music Camp, to help elementary and middle school students further develop their musicianship.

Schedule Saturday, March 21:

8:30 am – morning session check-in

9:00 am – Instruction begins

12 noon – Lunch/afternoon session check-in

1:00 pm – Instruction begins

4:00 pm – check-out

Instruction includes group instruction, small group/individual tutoring , ensemble playing, and classes such as music theory and conducting.

College Park Instrumental Music

The College Park Instrumental music program is the fastest growing high school music program in MDUSD. We have 7 ensembles: 2 Jazz groups, 3 band ensembles, and 2 orchestras including a symphony orchestra. We also offer AP music theory, guitar classes and next year we will offer piano classes and an additional string orchestra class. Our ensembles receive highest marks at music festivals, and we have many talented students that participate in music ensembles and music education outside of school. With a rich 50-year history of musical excellence, our ensembles have performed at music venues throughout the nation including the Kennedy Center for the Arts and Carnegie Hall in New York. This Spring our orchestras will go on a performance tour in Orlando, Florida.

Our Instrumental Music Director

Mr. Jorge Jiménez is now in his 4th year as Instrumental Music Director at College Park High School. A native of Southern California, Mr. Jiménez began his musical training in the public schools of Whittier in Los Angeles County. He attended La Serna High School and later moved north to earn his Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Stanislaus in Choral & Instrumental Music Education. Before coming to College Park High School and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Mr. Jiménez served in similar capacities teaching choral and instrumental music at all levels (K-12) with Woodland Joint Unified School District and River Delta Unified School District.

Mr. Jiménez stays active as a performing musician. Having two primary instruments (percussion & voice), he has had tremendous opportunities with various groups and organizations. He has taught percussion and jazz at Summer Music at Stanislaus and various classes at the Hayward-La Honda Music Camp. Currently, Mr. Jiménez is a percussionist with the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra and the newly formed San Francisco Wind Ensemble.

Note: Besides a community service project, the Future Falcon Camp is also a fundraiser to help raise funds for our travel program.
