Required Participation in Summer Research Programs
If selected as a BUILDing SCHOLARS trainee, all entering students who already have credit for SCI 1301, or its equivalent (e.g., UNIV 1301), must attend the mandatory zero-credit Summer Research Foundation Course (RFC) scheduled for Monday, July 27, through Friday, August 7, 2020 at UTEP. Failure to attend will result in immediate dismissal from the program. The only exception is if the student took a FYRIS/BUILD-sponsored SCI 1301, at which that point thye student does not need to attend the Summer RFC. *
If selected as a BUILDing SCHOLARS trainee, you will be required to participate in summer research at one of the program's partner institutions. Information about these programs can be found by contacting us at buildingscholars@utep.edu. Participating in an external summer research project will be an essential part of your training and will contribute to your personal and professional growth. There may be extenuating circumstances preventing a top candidate from spending summers at another site, so BUILDing SCHOLARS leadership team will review each case individually to determine if a student may be excused from this requirement. Please respond to the following to the best of your ability. *
