October is the time to "Plan and Plant." Winter pasture in Florida provides excellent nutrition and is less expensive than buying hay. Some forages can be planted without equipment, such as ryegrass, turnips, and clovers. We will discuss how to prepare the pasture for overseeding, and what to plant on your soil type.
One of the great things about the MSA get-togethers is the food. We always have an excellent meal, and enjoy each other's company. Bring a covered dish to share, and you just might have a winner in the Best Dish/Dessert Contest!
Sally Schollee will speak to us about the Lamb Check Off, and update us on the latest happenings from the American Lamb Board. We are excited to have her join us this year.
Carol Postley has been performance testing her ram and ewe lambs for 20 years, with Dr. Rae and his vet students. She will explain how to perform the test on your farm, and then select the best animals for your breeding programs.
TIME TO PAY MSA 2020 ANNUAL DUES
$25 PER YEAR FOR FAMILY AND FARM EMPLOYEES
Another year of fun and frustration with sheep (and various other farm animals) has passed. The MSA Field Days, hosted by members, have turned into successful events, and we look forward to 2020 being as good, or better! We will continue to provide the best service possible to our members, and those in our sheep community.
Together, we make the MSA an organization of support and encouragement.
Your membership is valued and appreciated!
$25 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP
We encourage you to be a member of the American Sheep Industry. They are our political lobbying group, and put out an informative publication. The MSA benefits with insurance for events, and our ASI Mentor, Wool, and Scrapie grant funds. Through the ASI Mentor Program, MSA Mentors have assisted new producers, giving advice, traveling to their farms and delivering lambs, showing how to give shots, trim hooves, and providing supplies such as antibiotics, milk replacer, etc. The MSA "Wool For The Fun Of It" event was funded through the ASI wool grant funds. Through your ASI membership, you are also helping the MSA.
