Art of Black Miami Cover Artwork Competition

 

The Art of Black Miami issue of MIA Magazine is a beautiful artistic representation and guide of galleries that represent black artist for Miami visitors and locals. This issue will be published on November 30, 2018.

MIA Magazine and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau invite you to enter the Art of Black Miami Cover Competition. 

Art of Black Miami is a marketing platform and destination driver that showcases the diversity of the visual arts locally, nationally and internationally, celebrating the black diaspora. This initiative highlights the artistic cultural landscape found in Miami's heritage neighborhoods and communities year-round throughout Greater Miami and the Beaches. All images are to be received by November 15, 2018.

Accepted Media

Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital, printing, and mixed media are eligible. Video works are not eligible

Please note:

  • Two-dimensional artwork dimensions cannot be larger than 75 x 85 inches (192 x 218 centimeters)
  • Three-dimensional artwork (i.e., sculptures) cannot be larger than 72 x 72 x 24 inches (184 x 184 x 61 centimeters)

Eligibility

All visual artists working and living in Miami are eligible to participate. Employees of The Miami Herald and GMCVB are not eligible.

  1. Copyrights – All of the images that you will be submitting are images of original artwork created by yourself or are artworks created by an artist who authorized you to submit the images on his/her behalf. Images submitted by you do not violate the privacy rights, publicity rights, copyright or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. You may not post, distribute, or reproduce in any way any copyrighted material, trademarks, or other proprietary information without obtaining the prior written consent of the owner of such proprietary rights. Without limiting our rights, it is our policy to terminate all relations with any artist who infringes copyright upon our receipt of a notice of infringement from the copyright owner or the copyright owner’s legal counsel.
  2. Artwork Subject Matter - The artwork, which will be uploaded by you, will not include material that is sexually explicit, violent and/or racist.
  3. Juror – if for any reason an announced juror is unable to judge the entries, the remaining jurors and/or alternate jurors will judge the entries.
  4. Jurying - Judging will be ‘blind’. Individual scores from judges will be averaged to produce a single score for each entry. No names or other indicators will be shown in judging to lead to the entrant and no names or other indicators are allowed on the Entry that could indicate who is the author of the Entry.
  5. Selected Artists – Will be notified by MIA Magazine.
  6. Awards - Awards for the selected artists are listed below.
  7. Usage of Images – We will have the right to publish images of your artwork selected by the jurors on our websites and other advertising channels to promote future competitions and your artwork.
  8. Retention of Images - By uploading your artwork, you authorize us to retain the images of such uploaded artwork in our system until the conclusion of the competition. You further authorize us to retain such images following the conclusion of the competition. We are retaining these images in order for you to be able to easily submit them to other competitions in the future. At any time, after the conclusion of the competition, you may send us an email requesting that we delete such images. We will confirm the receipt of the email and your images will be deleted within 10 business days after your receipt of our confirmation.
  9. Changes in Schedule – MIA and AOBM reserves the right to change competition deadlines and dates due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

Artists who submit their artwork to the MIA Media & Communications Group, LLC (MMCG) and Greater Miami and Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) for an art competition and have any of their submitted artwork chosen for participation in the subsequent MIA Magazine published on November 29th, 2017 and art exhibition agree to the following; That MMCG/GMCVB be granted usage of the chosen artwork, only for display, marketing and promotional purposes for that publication and art exhibition, and for any future MMCG/GMCVB themed art exhibitions and that usage of that image(s) is limited to any MMCG/GMCVB press releases, MMCG/GMCVB event presentations, MMCG/GMCVB articles, MMCG/GMCVB graphics, MMCG/GMCVB slide shows, MMCG/GMCVB presentations, MMCG/GMCVB event materials and for use on the MMCG/GMCVB websites and social media sites.
 
The artist further agrees that MMCG/GMCVB can maintain an archive of the chosen artwork for the purpose of a historical documentation and as a record of past themed shows. This archive will be available for public viewing and be limited to the MMCG/GMCVB websites and social media sites. MMCG/GMCVB will credit each image creator with their Artist Name, File Name and the Artist Website, if applicable. The Artist shall maintain all copyrights of any images that are submitted to MMCG/GMCVB.
 
No resale of or exchange of images will occur by MMCG/GMCVB. All images contained herein or attached to this website are the property of the artist and the artist retains the sole copyright and all applicable rights to said images. No images may be copied or downloaded from this website.
