8th Annual Stars and Stripers - 2017

Project Healing Waters and Dominion Marina are pleased to host the 8th Annual Stars & Stripers Fishing event.

The event is open to active military members and veterans who regularly participate in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing programs, as well as their immediate families, partners, and care providers.

0630 to 0730 – breakfast under the big top tent

0730 to 0745 – flag ceremony and invocation

0745 to 0800 – boat assignments and load-out

0800 to 1230 – fly fishing on the Chesapeake!

1230 to 1630 – crab feast, BBQ, and closing ceremony under the big top

The guided fishing is restricted to PHWFF participants.

Depending on signups and interest, we will arrange for additional activities for family members – these may include light tackle fishing, trot line crabbing, or a boat cruise. Minors must be accompanied by an escort and at least 13 years of age to participate in fishing or crabbing in boats. Please note: there are basic amenities available at the marina during the day.

The event is open to any PHWFF participant who wants to fish, although we give first priority to PHWFF participants who have not previously participated in a Stars & Stripers event. Our event is focused on enjoyment and having fun on the water, although we will make awards at the Crab Feast after fishing. We strongly encourage Catch, Photo, and Release (CPR) when you fish.

You MUST register to attend, including family members.

We need your information to plan for boats, guides, and family activities – while we hope to accommodate everyone, please note registering does not guarantee these additional family activities will be available.

Please register NOW to help us reserve space and resources. Every eligible PHWFF participant will be assigned to a guided boat and will be able to go fishing. Family events will be available based on demand.

Registrants will receive an email on or about Monday, August 7th with a detailed agenda, information on available family activities, directions to the event and outfitting/equipment suggestions.

Stars & Stripers is an invitation-only, guided, small-boat saltwater fly fishing event for Striped Bass on the Chesapeake expressly for active PHWFF program members and their families.

If you have special needs re mobility, diet, etc. please indicate at the bottom of this form.

Note: we can find a way to get almost anyone out on the Bay if you're willing to try.

Boat activities will be available for children 13 years or older with a chaperone, or 17 years or older on their own. Please note: Dominion Marina is in a rural setting and only has basic amenities for people on shore. Shoreside activity between 0800 and 1230 will be ‘chillin’ under the tent in a gravel parking lot.
