In the 2020 competitive season, critique and/or overview commentary will be offered at 6 MWCGC contests, including all Saturday shows and the 1st two weekend Sunday shows. By doing so, our units will have the ability to maximize on conversations after listening to judge’s commentary provided throughout the season. (Please Note: Critique attendance is not a requirement for any unit. There are no negative ramifications for not attending critique.)

Note, if you are in both shows on one of the 1st 2 weekends, you should sign up for the Saturday critique-overview.

This link will be updated after each performance weekend so that critique sign up is made available two weeks before each show. Directors will be notified when the link has been updated to include the next round of contests. Sign-up through this form is being implemented fully, meaning that on-site critique sign-up will no longer be available.

As a reminder, we will actually have 2 critique types each show; one for those on the RA sheets with an overview commentary, and one for those on the A/O/W sheets with the scoring Judges.

For the first weekend, all units will receive overview commentary recordings. Units on the A and O sheets also do a traditional critique with all the scoring judges. However, per the 2018 Aug Membership Mtg, RA sheet units who wish to have the traditional critique can sign up if there are open slots in the 1 hr provided for the traditional critique.

On this year's critique form will ask you for your unit name and class, and A & O sheet units will be sorted time wise for critique by when they are on in the show to allow time to hear your commentaries. For those marked on the RA sheet, it will ask the following:

a. Overview commentary only, no traditional
b. Traditional if available, otherwise Overview
c. Traditional only, if not, no Overview

Available spots will be assigned on a “first come, first serve” process. The waitlist will be determined by the timestamp after units submit the sign-up form. Units will be notified if they have received a critique spot, as well as the waitlist order, on the Wednesday prior to the contest weekend.

Once notified of your unit’s spot or waitlist spot in critique, critique order will be assigned based on contest performing order (i.e. SAA, SA, A, IO, etc.) allowing units performing towards the end the of the contest an ability to listen to tapes prior to their critique conversations. Any unit wishing to cancel their critique slot is allowed to do so. The Timing & Penalty Judge will go in waitlist order for units to then fulfill a previous unit’s spot. Please note that slots cannot be given to other units unless a unit is on the waitlist and the unit provided the spot is the highest on the waitlist.

Please note depending on show size we may offer mid-show critiques for our earlier performing units, however, the same process will be followed. Also note, critique may be cancelled pending weather conditions or extreme contest delays – the Chief Judge will make such a decision.

Remember, critique is NOT a requirement...and if you do not listen to your commentaries ahead of time, you will be wasting your and the judges time.
The judges will not take it wrong if you do not sign up. They do not look forward to critique as a social experience. If you do not sign up, no worries, they will think you are either tied up otherwise, or think the commentaries require no further discussion.

Thank you for your attention to this important topic and we look forward to seeing you in the 2020 competitive season.
