Bussey Brake is a 2,200 acre reservoir located in Northeast Louisiana. It is the only LDWF Wildlife Management Area (WMA) with recreational fishing as the top priority. For its size, Bussey Brake is producing record numbers of bass and crappie and anglers continue to experience unprecedented success in catching their personal bests as well as trophy-sized fish. In order to preserve this unique fishery for as many users as possible and optimize the potential for the public to catch state-record bass and crappie, LDWF has developed the following guidelines for fishing tournaments at Bussey Brake WMA.
Bussey Brake WMA Fishing Tournament Regulations
- Tournament organizers must submit an application at least 60 days prior to the requested tournament date.
- No more than 15 boats per tournament will be permitted.
- Tournaments must be an immediate release format (fish must be weighed or measured then immediately released into the lake).
- Tournament participants may not possess any bass or crappie (except for weighing or measuring immediately after caught) during tournament hours.*
- There will be no exemptions to State or WMA regulations.
*Potential Louisiana state record bass (over 15 pounds) or crappie (over 3 pounds) caught during tournaments should be retained alive to be weighed by an LDWF biologist on a certified scale.
